As part of the drug supply reform, the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan introduced a new pricing system. Specifically, a unified approach to manufacturer price registration was introduced, transportation markups and drug distribution costs were eliminated, generic prices were reduced by 30%, and international referencing was introduced.
"As a result, prices for many drugs in 2026 procurements decreased by 50% to 300% compared to 2025, and overall savings exceeded 36 billion tenge," Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova noted in her speech at a government meeting.
In total, price reductions were achieved for 66 medications, including expensive oncology drugs, as part of the drug procurement program. For example, prices for the following medications were reduced:
imatinib - from 9,450 to 2,348 tenge,
bevacizumab - from 360,000 to 77,000 tenge.
Leading domestic pharmaceutical manufacturers supported the new rules. Nobel AFF, Abdi Ibrahim Global Pharm, Khimfarm, Kelun-Kazpharm, and others adjusted prices and expanded their product lines. Purchases of medications from domestic manufacturers reached 170 billion tenge.
The savings are used to provide care to patients who require expensive treatment.
