Kazakhstan has improved its position in the UN Human Development Index.

Kazakhstan has improved its position in the UN Human Development Index, moving up seven places to 60th place out of 193 countries.

According to the Ministry of Health, extensive work was carried out this past year to develop the healthcare system in line with the President's instructions, from strengthening legal protections for medical workers to modernizing infrastructure and improving the quality of medical care. As a result, overall mortality decreased by 2.6%, cancer mortality by 6.3%, and infant mortality reached a historic low of 18.7%. Life expectancy in the country is expected to increase to 75.8 years by 2026.

In 2025, a law was passed to improve the mandatory social health insurance system, which will provide approximately one million additional citizens with access to medical care starting in the new year. Cancer screenings are included in the guaranteed free medical care, expanding coverage for the uninsured population.

Legal protections for medical workers have also been strengthened: violence against medical workers in the line of duty is now a criminal offense. Priority areas include the development of primary healthcare, maternal and child health, modernization of oncology services, the launch of the first Proton Therapy Center in Central Asia, the development of rural healthcare, and the active implementation of digital solutions and artificial intelligence technologies.
