On April 4, 2025, a meeting was held between the management of SK-Pharmacia LLP and representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Kazakhstan. As reported by the press service of the Unified Distributor, joint initiatives for the procurement of medicines through the UNDP platform were discussed during the meeting.
"During the meeting, UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan Katarzyna Wawiernia emphasized that UNDP is a strategic partner in the development of the healthcare system. Particular attention is paid to the interaction between SK-Pharmacia, UNDP and suppliers of medicines. According to her, ensuring the reliability of supplies, product quality and preventing delays are the key tasks that UNDP works on with suppliers on an ongoing basis. She also noted the importance of studying international procurement mechanisms and negotiations with suppliers by the staff of the Single Distributor. In this regard, UNDP is ready to support the company's intention to study the experience of the Copenhagen office, which will improve the procurement system in Kazakhstan.
Chairman of the Board of SK-Pharmacia LLP Erken Zhakatai thanked UNDP for its cooperation and emphasized the importance of building an effective model of interaction between the organizations. He expressed readiness to work together to develop operational procedures, establish clear deadlines for the formation of procurement and implement international practices to minimize the risks of supply disruptions.
During the meeting, Sukhrob Khodjimatov noted that UNDP has a National Development Plan for Kazakhstan until 2029, which includes reform of the healthcare system, including cooperation with the Single Distributor. This project is aimed at strengthening the potential of the single distributor in the field of planning and procurement. In the future, further development of the National Plan projects is planned so that the healthcare system of Kazakhstan can successfully function without external support.
At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their intention to continue fruitful cooperation and expressed their readiness to prepare a new agreement that will consolidate joint initiatives. It should be noted that the total amount of medicines purchased by the Single Distributor through UNDP for the period from 2018 to 2025 amounted to about 6 billion tenge. Under the Project Agreement with UNDP, drugs for the treatment of orphan diseases, tuberculosis and viral hepatitis were purchased.
