Kazakhstan is the first among the CIS countries and fourth in the European region to achieve Level 3 maturity of its national regulatory system for medicines, according to the World Health Organization.
This achievement confirms the system's compliance with international standards for the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines.
This was noted during the India-Kazakhstan Pharmaceutical Business Forum, held in Almaty with the participation of over 60 Indian pharmaceutical companies—manufacturers of medicines, pharmaceutical raw materials, medical devices, vaccines, and biotechnological products.
Achieving Level 3 maturity means that Kazakhstan's national regulatory system for medicines complies with international requirements for registration, quality control, pharmacovigilance, and production inspection. This increases the trust of international organizations, investors, and manufacturers in Kazakhstan's pharmaceutical system.
The Ministry of Health is systematically developing the pharmaceutical industry, attracting investment, implementing modern technologies, digitalizing medicine circulation processes, and increasing the transparency and efficiency of procurement procedures. Ensuring
the availability and effectiveness of medicines for every patient has become the primary focus of the Ministry of Health in 2025.
3.6 million people receive free medications under the State Funded Medical Care and Mandatory Health Insurance (MSHI), representing 15.6 million prescriptions worth 262.9 billion tenge.
The medication lists have been updated: ineffective medications have been excluded, and modern and innovative ones have been strengthened.
