Kazakhstanis' spending on paid healthcare increased by 12.5% ​​in a year

The Bureau of National Statistics (BNS) of the ASPiR RK calculated that, on average, each Kazakhstani spent 4 thousand tenge on healthcare services in the third quarter of 2024. Over the year, expenses on paid medicine increased by 12.5%, in June-September 2023, the figure was 3.7 thousand tenge. Half of this amount was spent on the purchase of medicines and various health products. Total household expenditure on healthcare for the quarter amounted to 8.1 thousand tenge, an increase of 4.6% compared to the same period in 2023.

The statistical collection of prices and tariffs for individual types of paid services of the BNS for September last year indicates that an initial visit to a doctor in Kazakhstan cost on average 5.7 thousand tenge, a general blood test - 1.9 thousand tenge, a general urine test - 1.1 thousand tenge. That is, one visit to a doctor at a private clinic and the delivery of the simplest tests last fall cost 8.6 thousand tenge. Additional examinations - ultrasound, detailed tests or MRI, increase this amount at least twice.

The volume of services provided by healthcare institutions at the expense of the population in the third quarter of last year amounted to 169.7 billion tenge. Compared to the previous quarter, the amount increased by 10.3%.
